Monday, July 6, 2009

Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (UPV) today introduced a pioneering system that allows people using wireless technologies low. This tool will be used this year on an experimental basis with the children participating in the Summer School of the University, although it can also be used in the elderly and disabled, informed sources from the academic institution. The system is based on the solution 'SPHERAmobile', developed by the institute and the company Itaca TSB, which allows the location, control and identification of children in open spaces in an easy, safe and effective.

This new system operates independently, anywhere, using technology developed by TSB SPHERAone. The monitor has a group responsible for mobile devices to manage the lists of the children present, the identification and detection.

In addition each child wears a wristband radio frequency identification, which serves for identification and location within a radius of approximately 20 meters around the monitor. The whole system is configurable and supports the management of different groups of children and the control of different monitors simultaneously.

After more than two years of research and field trials, which have collaborated ITHACA, TSB and the Summer School of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, using the system for monitoring, detection and identification of its students during their camps, excursions and activities, this July the system will be implemented for use by the School of 250 children, organized into 10 clusters with ages between 8 and 13 years.

Multiple applications

The extension of the system for all children in the school, the roughly 1800 that invade every summer Campus de Vera, and Gandia Alcoi is planned for the Summer School of 2010.

SPHERAmobile has multiple applications, are mainly directed to the control groups of children on excursions, camps and tours. It can also be used in groups of disabled and elderly.
