Software for the deaf made with Venezuelan talent

We have received the good news of software made in Valencia, Venezuela, to help deaf children aged between 5 and 7 years.

Sign Math software has been developed by Ignacio Salazar (see Figure 1) and other Venezuelan youth (Fauzi Gomez, Deborah Simon, Aida Torres) as part of the development team to which they have named Life Sign.

Ignacio Salazar has reported that this educational product was part of his thesis and aims to:

- Encourage the logical and mathematical thinking in deaf children.
- Submit to children with hearing impairments confront sections so that clarification and temporal-spatial relations and numerical.
- To integrate the deaf children to new information technologies and communication.
- Strengthen the teaching of sign language.
- The software has been developed under open source license and runs only on Linux environment.

Here you can see graphical user interface and operation of this software tool (see video 1).


In the video 1 shows the degree Aida Torres, an expert in sign language, explaining to children the steps to follow suit.

Importantly, Ignacio Salazar won the EUREKA / OFL 2009 in the category Digital Game with this software.
