Accessibility adaptations for toys and videogames

Sunday, January 3, 2010

A few days ago we saw the possibilities that the Wii was for people with reduced mobility to access this. This new form of control console, besides providing various forms of control, helps to restore and improve movement and rolling, strength, endurance and coordination, serving as a rehabilitative tool with a level of motivation and interest high , providing a great value.

The great possibilities that we are providing consoles, has been a number of adaptations that echo control knobs with low-cost technology.

In OneSwitch (English) have found different ways of adjustments for different controls of the PlayStation 2/3 and a variety of game consoles. Other adaptations that we can find are for technology-based toys operable by switches. Here we leave the series of guides to show us OneSwitch:

One of the latest we could find on the blog of Videojuegos Accesibles, we can see a good explanation of how to control the mouse using a facial PlayStation:

"Special Effect has released a video that shows how you can get a Playstation control using a mouse mask.

They have done using a computer mouse and software facial SmartNav of communication and access Grid 2. Communication between the PC and Playstation 2 is performed by infrared signals because this version of the Playstation was prepared to use wireless controllers that way. In a Playstation 3 you must use an additional infrared receiver device for the console, because the standard communication of wireless controllers for PlayStation 3 is bluethoot. "

Seems to be a good fit, but we continue on the path of the high cost of this adjustment remains inaccessible to those who do not have a high purchasing power. We believe this same adaptation could occur at term with low-cost hardware and free software eyetracking for simulating the PlayStation controller.
