The Visual Messenger provides access to virtual communication with drawings and Picts

An association of disabled Mataró has successfully helped to create the Visual Messenger, a new system that provides access to virtual communication for people with literacy difficulties, speech or movement. The invention, presented last week in Madrid, was hailed with admiration by those attending the conference Telecom R & D, sponsored by the Ministry of Industry, which brought together polytechnic universities, technological centers and leading companies in new technologies.
The application, created by the Foundation and the Fundació El Maresme Mataró-Maresme Tecnocampus has been developed by the CITAP (Center for Technological Innovation Adapted to Persons), and real computer innovation is adapted to persons with disabilities.
This is a project led by the spirit of youth overcome serious problems with literacy, speech and disabilities that affect their movements. To avoid this, the Visual Messenger uses a SPC representing words and concepts through pictograms and drawings that allows fluid communication between these brief but teenagers.
The initiative was to provide an outlet for the concerns of service users occupying the insertion of Fundació El Maresme, they needed to feel independent in handling the conventional Messenger. The majority, thanks to their schooling after they were already familiar with new technologies, but could not access a simple message, as did his brothers or friends.

THE DREAM OF THE MARKETING / With the collaboration of CITAP, they helped to extrapolate the uses of traditional mail overcoming the difficulties of their disabilities. The Fundació El Maresme, social institution initiative born in 1994, is characterized by constant innovation and development of elements for supporting people with mental disabilities. Other projects of his are the interfaces for the blind, personal assistants PDA and multimedia resources such as the Web's hip, which contains activities such as educational games, educational materials and teaching guides.
