Google has introduced a new interface independent of the vision based on Android.
The touch screens are one of the greatest demands for mobile phone users. For this reason, and during 27 and May 28 in San Francisco (USA) held the
Google I / O, which introduced a new telephone system independent of tactile vision. At this meeting, as reported by the magazine
Technology Review, Raman (one of the scientists from Google) presented an interface that works through tactile and auditory processes.
With this system it is imperative to use the vision to reach out to manage the basic processes on phones that have that application. Hence, this innovation allows the mobile devices with touch screen can be used by the blind. However, Raman goes further. He claims that this application is not used only for the people with vision problems. It is also possible to use it if we are not able to see the screen.
The idea is not new
Develop mobile that can be used by the blind is nothing new. Years ago, in 2004 and in Spain,
Telefónica and
ONCE had a mobile designed for the blind: the
OWASYS 22C. Furthermore, the development of interfaces do not depend on the vision is not something new because, as reported by Kate Greene for Technology Review, researchers at Microsoft since 1994 have developed different applications with varying visual independence.
The technology developed by Google is based on the Android platform and the first one could be completely platform independent vision. That is because Android supports vibration and sounds, so it's possible the blind option can be added to a good part of the applications presented Android.
Android is a software platform and operating system for mobile devices. Has been developed by technology from Google GNU / Linux. In addition, there is a
website in which people who wish to develop applications for the platform can do. To do this, it is only necessary to enter the page and off, for example, the Android SDK that allows creating apps (as Google is known for mobile applications).
